Yoke Shafts

A yoke shaft is a solid or hollow shaft machined with both a U-joint yoke feature at one end and either a splined journal, welded stub, or bearing journal at the other end. They are used in two-piece and three-piece driveshaft assemblies where a single yoke must serve double duty — connecting to the adjacent U-joint while also providing the structural link between the center support bearing and the next shaft section.

Yoke shafts differ from standard weld yokes in that they include the shaft section as an integral part rather than relying on a weld joint to a separate tube. This one-piece construction eliminates the weld joint as a failure point and provides a more rigid connection in short-span applications where a tube section would be too short to weld reliably.

When selecting a yoke shaft, confirm:

U-joint series at the yoke end (1310, 1350, 1410, 1480, etc.)
Shaft OD and spline count at the mating end
Overall length between the U-joint bore centerline and the shaft end
Bearing journal OD if a center support bearing will ride on the shaft
