4-82-561U -- 1550 Series Yoke Shaft
The 1550 series sits between the 1480 (1.375" bearing caps) and 1610 (1.875" caps) in the U-joint series strength hierarchy. The 1550-series yoke shaft uses a 1.750" spline diameter with 16 splines -- identical spline profile to the 1550-series 4-82-411-1U and 4-82-371U variants. The only differentiator between models in this series is CL-to-end and spline engagement length.
The 4-82-561U has 9.750" CL-to-end and 3.000" spline engagement. On wear inspection, 1550-series yoke shafts most commonly show fretting at the spline root rather than at the bearing surface -- caused by micro-motion under cyclic torque reversal. If the spline root shows discoloration or material transfer, replace the shaft and the mating sleeve together. This stub shaft is UDS manufactured.
