ATU4583 -- 4.500" Aluminum Driveshaft Tube
ATU4583 is 4.500" OD x 0.125" wall 6061-T6 aluminum tube in a 72" stick. The large 4.500" diameter positions the shaft critical whirl speed significantly higher than smaller-OD tubes at equivalent lengths, making this appropriate for single-piece driveshafts that would otherwise require conversion to two-piece with center bearing.
Critical speed note: the first critical speed of a rotating shaft increases with the square root of stiffness (EI) and decreases with length squared. A 4.500" OD tube has approximately 1.5x the second moment of area of a 3.000" OD tube with equal wall thickness, providing a meaningful critical-speed advantage in long-shaft applications.
