The ATU3125 is UDS DOM Steel driveshaft tubing, " OD x " wall, sold as a High Performance tube. This tubing is the raw material for custom driveshaft builds, providing the structural backbone for welding on end yokes, stub shafts, and slip yokes to create a driveshaft precisely matched to your vehicle's dimensions.

Material and Manufacturing

DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) steel tubing offers better dimensional consistency and surface finish than ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) tubing of the same nominal size. The mandrel drawing process closes the weld seam and works the tube wall to a uniform thickness and roundness that matters for balanced driveshaft fabrication. The ATU3125 is specified at " OD with a " wall, giving a calculated moment of inertia suited to the torque and speed range of its intended series.

Fabrication and Welding Notes

This tubing is intended for professional driveshaft fabrication. Cutting to length requires a chop saw or cold saw -- do not use an abrasive cutoff wheel, which generates heat that alters the tube's metallurgy near the cut. After cutting, deburr the ends and check squareness with a machinist's square. Yoke welding requires a lathe or driveshaft welder fixture to hold true concentricity during welding. Any runout in the weld joint will require balancing correction after fabrication.

After welding, dynamic balance the completed shaft at operating RPM. The critical speed of a " tube at this wall thickness limits the maximum safe RPM -- consult the driveshaft critical speed charts before specifying this tube for high-speed applications.
