40020347 3R series long-neck yoke shaft, 31/32-spline x 1.375″ diameter, 3.500″ spline engagement, 11.500″ C/L to end.
Full Description
This part is the long-neck variant of 3R82-321 -- the extended neck provides additional clearance between the transfer case output and the front axle U-joint on raised suspensions. Swapping a standard-neck shaft into a lifted application without accounting for neck length is a failure mode that causes premature U-joint binding at full droop.
- Series: 3R (Spicer/Dana 3R equivalent), 31/32-spline x 1.375" diameter
- Spline length: 3.500" -- confirms adequate engagement in the transfer case bore
- C/L to end: 11.500" -- measure existing shaft before ordering to confirm this length matches your installation
- Boot cap: N/A for this application -- check the transfer case output seal condition before reinstallation
- Compatible midship stub shafts and slip yokes should be 3R series rated
When installing, apply a light coat of lithium grease to the spline bore before engagement. Torque the retaining nut to the transfer case manufacturer's specification -- under-torque allows the yoke to micro-walk on the spline, which causes fretting corrosion and eventually loosens the joint.
