The 3R82-321 yoke shaft provides the splined male engagement for slip-type driveshaft couplings in 3 R series applications. With 32 splines at 1.375 inch diameter and a 3.350 inch spline length, this shaft section mates with the corresponding slip sleeve or transmission yoke to provide articulation and length compensation in the driveline.

Yoke Shaft Function in Driveline Assemblies
In transfer case and multi-shaft driveline applications, the yoke shaft provides the torque-transmitting spline that engages a corresponding sleeve yoke or slip tube. The spline length -- 3.350 inches on the 3R82-321 -- determines how much axial travel is available for suspension articulation. Correct spline engagement depth is essential: too little engagement and the splines can disengage under maximum droop; too much and the shaft can bottom out and push the differential sideways under compression.

Inspection and Replacement
- Spline wear appears as polished, radiused flanks on the spline teeth -- compare the tooth form to a new part to confirm wear

- Lubricate the spline engagement with chassis grease or the manufacturer's specified compound at each service interval
- Confirm the 32-spline count on both the yoke shaft and the mating sleeve before assembly
