3-94-28X U-Bolt -- Fits 1480 and 1550 Series U-Joints
The 1480 and 1550 series share the 1.375-inch cap diameter, and the 3-94-28X U-bolt fits both series. The U-bolt retains the bearing plate and caps in the yoke -- incorrect U-bolt sizing (too wide or too narrow) prevents the bearing plate from seating flat, which tilts the caps and creates a misloading condition that fails the U-joint in a fraction of normal service life.

Replace U-bolts at every U-joint service. Reused U-bolts may have stretched beyond their elastic limit from previous installation torque -- a stretched U-bolt will not develop proper clamp load on the second installation and may fail under load. New U-bolts are inexpensive insurance against this failure mode.
