The 027SG80002 provides CVJ series CV constant-velocity output for driveshafts operating at angles where conventional U-joints fail to deliver smooth rotation. The centering socket bisects the total operating angle, ensuring the second joint cancels the velocity error introduced by the first.

Constant-Velocity Principle in Double-Cardan Joints
A single Cardan U-joint operating at an angle produces an output shaft speed that varies sinusoidally at twice the input frequency. This variation is small at low angles (under 3 degrees) but grows rapidly with increasing angle. At 10 degrees, the speed fluctuation is noticeable as a vibration. The double-Cardan design uses two joints in series, phased so each joint's variation is equal and opposite. A centering socket maintains the precise bisect angle between the joints to guarantee cancellation. The 027SG80002 incorporates this design in the CVJ series for high-angle shaft applications.
Assembly and Maintenance
