The GAO-60 rubber flex disc is the rubber driveshaft coupling used on GM European and import vehicles in place of a u-joint. It flexes to absorb angular movement and vibration between the transmission output flange and the driveshaft — without the velocity variation that a standard u-joint produces at high operating angles. A cracked or hardened GAO-60 rubber flex disc causes driveline clunk and vibration that looks like a u-joint problem but requires a completely different fix.
