Not every u-joint failure announces itself. Sometimes it's just wear — quiet, gradual, then gone. The UJ42106U UNIVERSAL JOINT 42X106 MERCEDES OSR 1.653X4.173 GREASEABLE HEAVY DUTY is a direct swap before it becomes a bigger problem.
The UJ381 series runs a varies cap diameter across a varies width — built for multi-application use. It's the standard cross on fits multiple series/platforms — verify dimensions.
Outside Snap Ring retention (OSR): Clips retain cap from outside the yoke bore. Most common retention method on domestic trucks. No special tools needed — standard snap ring pliers work.
Greasable with standard chassis grease — service every 30,000–50,000 miles for best longevity. Use a quality CV/chassis grease, not wheel bearing grease.. Dimensions: 1.653" cap, 4.173" width. Mostly used on Mercedes App. Confirm fitment by measuring your existing joint — series designation alone isn't always enough on modified or swapped vehicles.
